DR. DAILEANN HEMMINGS

SYSTEM DIRECTOR, HARTFORD HEALTHCARE

Daileann is a Doctoral prepared perinatal nurse with a focus in Community/Public Health. She has over 20 years of nursing experience specializing in perinatal health. Currently, Daileann is the System Director of Maternal Health Equity working to address health disparities to impact mortality & morbidity at Hartford Hospital. Previously, Daileann supervised clinical and non-clinical staff, providing them with education and coaching to improve pop health outcomes. Imperative information was offered to obtain optimal health with the mother-baby dyad. Her experience in nursing includes travel nursing to some of the country’s top hospitals including, Yale New Haven and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Daileann studied in Australia to acquire knowledge on public health approaches to promote the use of female condoms as a barrier protective contraception. Daileann has conducted research, written articles and participated in research for the dissemination of multilevel education of the female condom. Community commitments include working with the Institute for Community Research on the Community Advisory Board and assisting with the organization of a town-wide education program designed to educate expecting and newly delivered mothers of information pertaining to perinatal health. She is committed to work locally and abroad. Daileann worked as a professor at the University of Hartford’s RN to BSN program. At the University, her students were active in community settings such as soup kitchens and shelters. They worked to improve the health and quality of life of marginalized individuals using Participatory Action Research. She is a graduate of the class of 2012 Connecticut Health Foundation Fellowship Leadership Program, a program designed to support leaders who are change agents working to address racial and ethnic health disparities. She also served as Vice President of Citizen’s for Quality Sickle Cell Care (CQSCC), a non-profit organization with a mission of ensuring the availability and accessibility of quality comprehensive care for individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease. Hemmings’ most recent publication (2018) is the co-authored article titled: “Stigma and Illness Uncertainty: adding to the burden of Sickle Cell Disease.
